After the baby’s first taste, you can start offering these at around six months of age.

However, in order to minimize allergies, it is best to introduce peanut butter as the first allergen very early in the weaning process (after egg). Following this, you can introduce other nut butter.

- Ensure to dilute the peanut butter with a little hot water and make it a puree-like consistency.
- Then, give your baby a little with a spoon and monitor him for about 10 to 15 minutes within 24 hours.
- If your little one is non-allergic, he won’t display any reactions like rashes, hives, or respiratory issues.
- Therefore, you can continue giving him peanut butter.
- After the first attempt, try again by putting a little puree-like peanut in the middle of your baby’s bottom lip. If he is allergic to it, you will notice an immediate reaction.
In general, even if your child’s first encounter with peanut butter did not result in an allergic reaction, start by giving a small amount of the spread or puree.
Precautions Before Giving Peanut Butter to Baby
There is a high level of allergenicity in peanut butter. Therefore, you should take certain precautions before or while giving your baby peanut butter for the first time.

- It is better to introduce peanut butter or anything made from peanuts at home than at a restaurant or childcare facility. However, some mothers do so at a doctor’s clinic. You should be cautious while giving peanut butter because the thick texture could choke a baby.
- Gradually give your baby peanut butter and introduce it in minimal quantities.

Peanut butter allergy is a serious allergic reaction, especially in babies. This happens when the antibodies that aid in fighting foreign proteins in the peanut prompt histamine release.
Reactions lead to symptoms like rash, hives, or itchy skin. In addition, the skin can become red and bumpy at times, mainly around the mouth and face, but sometimes elsewhere as well. Peanut butter can cause the reaction either by eating it or coming into contact with it.
When the peanut butter allergy is severe, babies may experience life-threatening respiratory problems called Anaphylaxis. This kind of allergic reaction causes the throat to swell up, restricting the breathing passage and making breathing difficult.
The baby may even go into shock due to low blood pressure and a fast heart rate.
Symptoms of Peanut Allergy in Babies
Here are a few peanut allergy symptoms to look out for in your baby:
- The skin may appear itchy and have small spots or big welts.
- The mouth or throat area may be itchy or experience a tingling sensation.
- Peanuts may cause itchiness anywhere on the baby’s body where they come into contact with their skin.
- Wheezing and sneezing may occur when your baby inhales dust from the peanuts or their shells.
- Your child may experience stomach cramps, lightheadedness, loose motion, and nausea.
- Babies may experience breathlessness if their noses are blocked or very runny.
- Anaphylaxis is a rare medical condition that can cause respiratory problems and shock.
Symptoms of peanut allergy in babies can range from mild to severe. You should consult an allergist as soon as possible if you suspect your child suffers from a peanut allergy.
How to Prevent Choking with Peanut Products
The best way to prevent choking in babies is never to give them whole or chunky peanuts. Plus, if these babies inhale whole or partially chewed peanuts into their lungs, it can result in serious and possibly fatal chemical pneumonia. Your child should be old enough to chew whole peanuts.
In addition, avoid feeding your baby with chunky or spoonfuls of peanut butter to prevent potential dangers, or having it stuck in their mouths.

How to Prepare
- Boil the milk in a pan
- Add the sugar and allow it to boil until your milk reduces to half in quantity.
- As soon as the milk reduces to half, add your peanut butter and salt to taste.
- Whisk the mixture well.
- Then pour your mixture into kulfi molds.
- Deep freeze for about 5 to 6 hours.
Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie
The recipe includes bananas, peanut butter, and milk, making it a creamy and delicious milkshake. In addition to being very easy to make, it is also quite filling.
- Bananas (medium size) – 2 pieces
- Milk – 2 cups
- Peanut butter – 2 tablespoons
How to Prepare
- Peel off the bananas and slice them into pieces.
- Then, place the pieces in the blender together with the peanut butter and milk.
- Blend together.
- Pour the blended mixture into a small glass and serve.
Peanut Butter Puree
This peanut butter puree should be fluffy enough and have yogurt consistency. Plus, it should be easy and light enough for your little one to move around in his mouth.
