A Heartfelt Letter to My Rainbow Baby

Dear Rainbow Baby,

You have no idea how much I love and need you. You have made our family complete. Everyone says that you will arrive anytime now, and I am excited. I just want to kiss your sweet face and hold you tight. I wish you health and happiness all through your life. You’re already loved by so many! Be brave, my child!

Love always,

Your mommy.

Still, wondering what this is about? I am expressing how I felt when I was expecting my rainbow baby. I penned it down and then wrote a longer heartfelt version which I’ll share with you in this blog post.

And I hope it inspires you to reveal your truth and express what you feel, as you expect your rainbow baby. You can still write this letter after giving birth or at your convenience.

Note that your rainbow baby may or may not see this letter, but it shouldn’t stop you from penning down you feel about your miracle pregnancy and child.

As soon as I discovered that I was expecting my rainbow baby, I felt so many things – mixed feelings, grief, and fear. And I also felt the need to write a heartfelt letter to my rainbow baby.

So, as I got closer to my delivery date, I decided to buy a journal from Amazon around my third trimester.

Before I started, I thought of every unexpected circumstance that has happened to me within that year, regarding my angel baby, the wait, and then my rainbow child.

As I pondered while staring wide at my angel baby and rainbow baby sonograms, tears rolled down my cheeks.

Then, I eventually started penning down a letter to my rainbow baby, coming from a place of sincerity.

Heartfelt Letter to My Rainbow Baby

Dear Little Pumpkin,

You are our rainbow baby. Our sweet and beautiful rainbow baby! I was surprised when I found out you were on the way, but so happy!

I always hoped we would have a child of our own after we lost Ryan, and here you are!

Honestly, I just can’t wait to meet you, my rainbow baby

I feel your tiny little heart beating inside my belly, and it fills me with glee. Your smile brings joy to me right now, even though we have yet to meet face.

I’ve always craved to be a mother, and ever since I found out you were on the way, I have been counting down the days till you arrive, both in my head and this rainbow. I am so honored to be a part of your life and can’t wait to meet you.

Words cannot explain my joy at becoming the mother of a rainbow baby. I have wanted so very much just to hold your small little body in my arms, kiss you and cherish you forever.

It’s a pretty crazy life we lead; with all the ups and downs, it’s been a bumpy ride.

And, due to the fear and anxiety your dad and I feel, we could only tell a few close friends and family about your arrival. It is not because you don’t matter, but we need to be sure that you are for real. That you will stay alive and healthy for us till you are born. We wouldn’t want to tell the world about you only to lose you to the painful hands of miscarriage or neonatal death, like my first unborn child, Ryan.

No matter what, your parents and family members will always love you

I, your dad, and even your grannies will always be here for you.

I stopped trying to understand everything that happened, and instead, I just focused on loving you – my sweetest baby girl in the world!

You are not, and will never be, a replacement for the baby that I lost. But you, my rainbow baby, have given me something to hold on to. Something to wake up for every morning —something with soft, black hair and bright eyes that smile so much they crinkle at the corners. Yes, that’s right.

You may just be a tiny human being without words or a developed personality, but you make me happy. You make me think about the future.

I am so thrilled to be a mom once again. I can only pray that God blesses my family with a long and healthy road of life together. I want every one of your days to be special and always to bring special joy to our lives.

You deserve a big bright rainbow filled with happiness and joy. You are going to be just fine! You’re a wonderfully beautiful little person who is loved more than you can imagine. I can’t wait to see the incredible things you will do and accomplish in your life.

What if you never get the chance to spend time with us and accomplish anything?

Your daddy and I will always love you and be grateful that you chose us to be your watch guards in this world.

Nevertheless, you must promise to always carry our love with you just as we’ll take you with us forever. Also, say “Hi” to your big bro from us all, telling him that we love you just as we love you.

We’ll always love you regardless, rainbow babylicious.

However, if you can hold on till the due date and come out alive, In this letter my rainbow baby, I promise to help you master the balancing motions, fine-tune your hand-eye coordination, and gain the agility to impress.

In addition, your father and I will take you to the beach where we’ll collect shells, make sandcastles, and watch the sunset. We can even ride bikes together or just lie in a field and gaze at the clouds.

Finally, we’ll teach you how to love and be loved. And share everything we know with you so that you can grow up to be a kind and generous child, like your mother and father. Also, you will never leave my side, not even on the first day of school or when you meet your future spouse.

Using this letter to you my rainbow baby, I promise to give you a childhood full of fun memories that will last a lifetime.

Regardless of what happens, my Babylicious, I am proud to be your mom.

Love forever,

Mama.
